Abortion Statistics in Louisiana come from the Department of Health and Hospitals.  Unfortunately, the numbers are on a three-four year delay. These numbers do not take into account the number of women who traveled outside of Louisiana for abortions or out of state women who came in to Louisiana for abortion.



  • 6,833 abortions occured in 2007.
  • 6,204 abortions occured in 2006 (all time low since 1975!).
  • 8,860 abortions occured in 2005.
  • 51.3% of abortions performed in LA in 2005 were performed on African American women; African Americans made up approximately 32% of female population.
  • The Louisiana abortion rate is approximately 1% of the national total.
